CCC Announces Recipients of 2023 Community Education Award Grants in Atlantic Canada
In 2023, Carton Council launched the third year of the organization’s Community Education Award program. The program was developed to support and enhance recycling education in Canadian communities while specifically promoting the recovery of food and beverage cartons.
This year, the Community Education Award program focused on the provinces in Atlantic Canada including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. In previous years, the awards program has focused on the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
Thirteen municipalities and organizations in Atlantic Canada successfully completed the program and will each receive a $2,000 grant. This year’s recipients are:
- Central Newfoundland Waste Management (CNWM)
- Chaleur Regional Service Commission
- Eastern Region Solid Waste Management
- Eco360
- Encorp Atlantic
- Greater Miramichi Regional Service Commission
- Hernewood Intermediate School
- Island Waste Management Corporation
- Multi-Materials Stewardship Board
- Municipality of East Hants
- Municipality of the District of Barrington
- Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission
- Western Valley Regional Service Commission
To receive the award, participants had to demonstrate that their websites accurately and clearly defined carton recycling. They were also asked to provide at least two other examples of communications activities that promote recycling in general, while also prominently including cartons.
Activities undertaken by the participating organizations included Facebook ads, school workshops, production of a brochure, and even a campaign featuring Marg, Princess Warrior of This Hour Has 22 Minutes fame.
